Cloud Pricing FAQ

What is a Simple FTP Service

Our Simple FTP Service connects your S3, Azure blob or GCS bucket to an auto-scaled cluster of custom Secure FTP servers that we host on AWS EC2. The service uses our own proprietary sfs-server daemon and is highly scalable running in multiple regions and availability zones.

Why should I use your service vs a DIY solution?

Sure it is possible to bring up a virtual instance and link it with a s3fs filesystem, we also did this many years ago, and learnt our lesson! Managing and monitoring such an instance became a serious overhead, and, there are no equivalent s3fs fuse plugins to Azure or GCS. There are also considerations of high-availability with SFTP and FTP/S, file sync between instances, and dealing with sftp if on a Windows environment. Then load-balancing...

Our service is fully managed, highly available, multi-region and multi-az. We support, maintain, monitor 24/7 with regular feature upgrades. We offer a user jail for multiple users to the same bucket out of the box, even on our basic plan, that is just the beginning.

Our job is to worry about this, you've got bigger fish to fry!

What is a user? What is a service?

A user is one authenticated login to your Simple FTP Service. Each Simple FTP Service you create is counted as one service. If you are accessing 3 buckets with 3 users on each bucket, this counts as 9 user/services.

What is meant by "Data transfer" and "Operations"?

Data transfer in and out of a service is counted towards your data transfer usage. Operations are get, put, login actions that occur on your service.

What is the difference between Standard and Premium?

Both plans let you use your own S3, Azure blob or GCS bucket and allow Whitlisting/Blacklisting of IP addresses. The Premium plan gives you a few additional features including file restore / reprocessing and root username aliasing.

What type of payment do you accept?

Credit card (including MasterCard, Visa or American Express) via Stripe which is available after you signup by upgrading your plan at anytime.

What options do I have to run DocEvent behind my firewall?

You can purchase a Self-Hosted service with an optional perpetual license to run an instance of our server behind your own firewall.

What is root username aliasing?

Normally when creating a service your username is prefix with a randomly generated 8 character string. Username aliasing lets you login to the server using a username without a prefix. Still unsure? Try our basic account for free to see how it works.

Can I change my plan at a later date?

Certainly! You can change your current plan at anytime by visiting the "Plan details" page in your Account page.
