DocEvent vs Couchdrop

Couchdrop and DocEvent both mount an SFTP endpoint on top of storage you already own. The gap is widest at the entry point: what one external user costs, what happens as partners are added, and how much of the platform sits behind contact-sales tiers.

Where DocEvent differs

The first partner should not cost $600 a year

Couchdrop's Link plan is US$50 a month for one external user. DocEvent's free plan carries five users, and five paid users are $10 a month. For the single-feed use case — one dialler, one supplier, one client dropping files — that is the whole comparison.

Every plan is self-service

Beyond Link, Couchdrop's tiers are contact-sales. DocEvent's plans, user counts, transfer packs and the self-hosted option are all public and self-service — you can price a 50-user deployment from the pricing page and have it running the same hour.

Routing is included, not an upsell

Channels — DocEvent's file routing between per-partner sources and FTP, SFTP, HTTP or email destinations — plus the IP firewall and the full audit log are on every plan, including the free one. Couchdrop gates its automation and security surface progressively across tiers.

Where Couchdrop may fit better

Couchdrop's genuine edge is its compliance and workflow surface: malware scanning, Transfer Shield DLP and SSO/SCIM on its higher tiers have no DocEvent equivalent, and its automation builder goes deeper than file routing. If your checklist names those, Couchdrop earns its price.

Switching takes three steps

1
Point DocEvent at your bucket
Connect the S3, Azure, GCS or S3-compatible bucket your files should live in — the same one you already use, or a fresh one. Files stream straight through; nothing is stored on our servers.
2
Recreate your users
Add an SFTP/FTPS/FTP user per partner or system, with a password or an SSH key and its own home directory. Per-service IP allow and deny rules are there if a partner should be pinned to known addresses.
3
Hand over the new hostname
Give partners the DocEvent hostname and credentials — or point a CNAME like sftp.yourcompany.com at the endpoint so nothing on their side ever changes again.
