Cancelling or closing your account

Cancel your subscription or close your account entirely - the difference between the two, and what has to be cleared first.
Updated August 31, 2026

There are two different things people mean here, and only one of them is permanent.

Cancel your subscription and stop being billed

If you want to stop paying but keep the account, cancel your paid subscription by moving to the Basic plan on Account → Plan. Basic is free, your account and services keep working within its included amounts, and you can move back up to a paid plan whenever you like.

For most people asking how to cancel, this is what they actually want, and it is reversible.

Delete your account permanently

To delete the account itself, go to Account → Details → Danger Zone and use the Delete this account button.

Deleting is permanent. You are signed out immediately, sign-in is blocked from then on, and your username stays reserved and can never be registered again. There is no undo.

What has to be cleared before you can delete

The Delete this account button stays disabled until your account is actually closeable, and the console lists what is standing in the way under Before you can close your account. Work through whatever it shows:

  • You are on a paid plan. Downgrade to Basic on Account → Plan first.
  • You still have services, channels or agents. Delete them, then come back. Each blocker lists the specific items and the region they are in - see the note on regions below.
  • You own an organisation, or belong to one. Remove every member from your organisation, and leave any organisation you are a member of, on Account → Organisation.
  • You have an outstanding invoice. Settle it from Account → Billing - the invoice list has a Pay link.

Services in other regions also count

Your services, channels and agents live in the region you created them in, and the check sweeps every region, not just the one you are looking at. So a forgotten service in another region will block the close even though your current region looks empty.

That is why the blocker shows a region against each item, like us-east-1: u0av3pjj. Use the region switcher in the top bar to go to that region, delete the item there, then return and try again.

If the console says it could not check every region, nothing is closed - the check deliberately fails safe. Try again shortly.

Your files are not deleted

DocEvent services read and write your own cloud storage. Deleting a service removes the DocEvent configuration and its access to your bucket; it does not touch the contents of the bucket itself. Whatever is in your S3 bucket, Azure container or GCS bucket stays exactly where it is, under your own cloud account.

Doing it

Once there are no blockers left, click Delete this account, type your username to confirm, and confirm. You are signed out straight away.
